Dear Friends: We enter a new era with dramatic changes to
a complex situation in East Africa. The area has natural and man-made disasters without enough emergency relief response.
For example, in Somalia the civil war eliminated the central government. People who can afford to leave and go to other countries
and those who are able cross borders and flee to refugee camps in neighboring countries. The result is that those left behind
are in the middle of various groups with different agendas—warlords, gangs, looters, militias and other threats.
Men and women, children and grandparents, widows and orphans are desperate, suffering, and without hope. Without a
government to maintain order in the society, there is no security and everything else falls apart. This means there are no
hospitals, schools, water, etc. Moreover, the absence of international intervention for relief and development add to the
problem.
The East Africa Relief and Development (EARD) organization, registered in the United States as an international
non-profit organization, operates in Somalia. EARD is unique because we work especially in remote, difficult to reach, and
hard to serve communities. We concentrate on isolated groups at the grassroots level and identify problems with village residents.
Together with international NGOs we seek reasonable solutions that can be carried out with mutual cooperation and combined
efforts.
World Helpers, the need is urgent. Together we can progress to realize a world vision of hope and peace.
Sincerely,
Wali Warfa President/CEO
